Season of Treasure, of the Living Seasons of Change series, covers the 18-21st Weeks of Ordinary Time. The Radio Show aired on Catholic radio KDUA. Hosted by Patti Brunner and Monsignor David LeSieur, VF, a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Little Rock, Season of Treasure will prepare your hearts as you head “Back to School”.  Tests make us better students and help us learn more.  Jesus allows us tests for the same reason.   To listen to this show Click Padua Media Catholic Radio.

Outline of the Season of Treasure

In the Sunday mass readings this month Jesus teaches us about tests and proper preparation.  Instead of getting A’s or B’s, Jesus wants us to receive eternal life. The Gospels educate us in dealing with our treasure, our possessions.

The 18th Sunday is about guarding against greed, with the story of rich man who built bigger storage bins, who thought he could rest, eat, drink and be merry.

The 19th Sunday Luke talks about where your treasure is, there your heart is and it is all about being ready for the master’s return; much is required if you are given a lot.  It’s all about preparation, and what happens when you are not prepared.

The 20th Sunday continues the 12th chapter of Luke, this is where Jesus is saying he came“to set the earth on fire”. Jesus also talks about the division; Father against daughter.

The 21st Sunday in the 13th chapter ofLuke, its about “failing the test”.  Jesus is asked “who will be saved”?  He answers by talking about the narrow gate.

Complete conversion takes place at death.

Readings from Hebrews , the 11th and 12th chapter telling us “faith is the realization of things hoped for”; “enduring your trials as discipline” no matter how tough it gets, do not think you failed the test; it is really more preparation.

A letter to the “Hebrews”, it is written to the Jews.  It is a treatise more than it is a letter, it is a very beautiful theological treatise on the priesthood of Jesus.

Use the references for specific preparation to follow the Way.   It is not the “easy way out” but it is the ease provided by preparation; those who prepare for a school exam/test find it “easy” when they prepared for what the test entailed.  Those who “spin their wheels” studying the “wrong” things on the test—while providing “knowledge” and take a lot of “prep time”—leave the student in final distress and the test is failed.

The Lord always provides the answer guide to help you as you seek Him after failure.  Your hope is in the name of the Lord.

Wrap up the program with tying together the theme of tests that bring endurance and strength and ultimately reward.

Matthew 6: 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  26 Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. [New American Bible]
Luke 12: 22 He said to (his) disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body and what you will wear.  23 For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.  24 Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How much more important are you than birds! 25 Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your lifespan?  26 If even the smallest things are beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest?  [New American Bible]
